DAREBEE Workout: What it Works
Focus: Cardio
Type: Burn
Difficulty: level 2 of 5

Dance Party (In My Kitchen) is a cardio circuit sized for exactly the space between the counter and the fridge. Step half jacks, knee-to-elbow, step jacks and single hip rotations - four moves, all standing, every one of them stepped rather than jumped, and none traveling more than one floor tile in any direction. Nothing leaves the ground, no furniture gets relocated, no downstairs neighbors get consulted. Put something on with a beat and this is a workout that happens to look a lot like dancing, because structurally it is one.

The circuit is built the way choreography is: a base step you keep coming back to, with a feature move in between. Step half jacks bracket the knee-to-elbow, then step jacks bracket the single hip rotations - each row returns to its simple two-beat step after something more demanding, which is how dancing keeps you moving for a whole song without gassing out. The base steps hold your heart rate steady at low cost, the half version reaching to shoulder height and the full version committing overhead; the feature moves earn their spot by asking more - knee-to-elbow adds trunk rotation and single-leg balance, and the hip rotations take each hip through its full circle while the standing leg stabilizes. Effort rises and settles, rises and settles, and the set ends before the pattern gets old.

Step the jacks wide and give every rep its full arm travel - shoulder height for the half jacks, a complete overhead reach for the step jacks; the stepped versions only work as cardio if the movement stays big. In the knee-to-elbow, rotate your torso to meet the rising knee - the twist is the exercise, the arm is just along for the ride. Draw the hip rotations as large, slow circles from the hip socket with your torso upright; leaning to help the knee up means the circle got too ambitious.

The best thing about a kitchen dance party is the commute - you are already there, and the playlist is entirely yours.

Make it Harder: Turn the step jacks into full jumping jacks.

Make it Easier: Cut every station to 5 reps and keep the circuit shape.

Grateful for your promise in keeping this site accessible and free for people of all fitness levels & goals around the world. Found Darebee some time years ago and used to just save the workouts and then forget about them somewhere in my documents & to do later lists 😅 but coming back to the site this year I loved the organised/simple layout & navigation of the site with full workout video at bottom to see proper form and notes to make things easier or harder depending on your fitness/energy aswell as an extensive exercise library with joint friendly alternatives. I found it much easier to track/check off completed workouts & days on program/plan on dashboard, was more likely to remember & do it + advanced filter made it quick to find a doable workout. As a tiny way to support this site I made account and use the site exclusively for exercises now, will look to donate when I can 🙏🏽 and would recommend it to all I talk to regarding fitness. Thank you Darebee team for the great job you've all done here and keep up the good work. Blessings to you all.
