Unfold is a gentle mobility workout for a body that has spent too long in the shape of a chair. Chest expansions, bicep extensions, single hip rotations, side leg raises, forward bends and hero squats - six movements that reverse the day's folding, one crease at a time. Sitting closes the chest, shortens the hips and rounds the spine; this workout is the act of opening the letter back up.
The circuit works from the top down, and the order mirrors the way a body actually unfolds. Chest expansions and bicep extensions open the front of the upper body first - the chest and arms that hunch inward over desks and phones. Then the hips get their turn: single hip rotations draw each leg through a full circle from the knee, and side leg raises take the hips laterally, a plane sitting never visits. The forward bends that follow release the entire posterior chain from neck to hamstrings - five slow folds and unfolds that are the workout's namesake in miniature. Hero squats finish the job: a deep squat with a fold at the bottom, rising to a full overhead reach, taking the whole body from its most compressed shape to its most extended in a single rep. Origami, run in reverse.
Move everything slowly - unfolding is not a speed event. Sweep chest expansions to a full stretch behind you at shoulder height. Draw hip rotations as big, smooth circles with the knee, standing tall on the support leg. Lift side leg raises strictly sideways without leaning away. Let forward bends hang heavy at the bottom, and rise vertebra by vertebra. In hero squats, sink deep, fold, then grow all the way up through the fingertips.
Paper holds its creases. Bodies, given five minutes and a little movement, mercifully do not.
Make it Harder: Add a 3-second hold at the deepest point of every forward bend and hero squat.
Make it Easier: Halve every block and shorten each movement's range to what feels smooth today.
